Health Care Logistics® Advisory Board Member Allison Lawhorn-Hoskins is a Senior Application Analyst who has been sharing her expertise with Team HCL since 2013. She received her MBA from Thomas More College, her BBA from the University of Cincinnati and she specializes in automation dispensing systems such as BDs Pyxis Medstation and CII Safe.

Even as a child, Lawhorn-Hoskins had an interest in medicine.

“From an early age I felt a weird pull toward the pharmacy world,” she recalled. “I can remember looking through my parent's PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) and there were these colored, glossy pages full of different tablets and capsules in all these pretty colors. Fast forward to my teenage years as a cashier at Kroger and was told I could be a pharmacy technician and they would train me! I’m so thankful for that opportunity because it put me on the path to where I am today!”

Lawhorn-Hoskins worked retail pharmacy through her undergrad years, but didn’t like the jobs for which she interviewed after earning her degree. 

“I switched to hospital pharmacy and was introduced to a whole new world,” she said. “I saw a need for oversight of the automated dispensing cabinets and started on the journey to where I am today.”

The variation in her profession is what keeps her intrigued.

“There's always something new going on so my brain is constantly stimulated. I also get great fulfillment knowing I'm helping others.”

Lawhorn-Hoskins takes pride in knowing her involvement with multiple projects has helped advance the profession. Highlights include implementing barcode scanning during ADC removal, a new system update from a legacy version and multiple new facility build-outs requiring ADCs.

When she’s not in the pharmacy, Lawhorn-Hoskins spreads her time among several hobbies including binge-watching her favorite television shows and walking her fur babies. Since buying her house, she has earned several home décor badges. She also enjoys traveling and, more specifically, cruising the seas.
